Forming a part of the Australian Made Summer of Tennis, the Australian Made Foundation Cup gives children 13 and under from rural and regional Australia the opportunity to compete nationally – something they may not be able to do often due to cost and travel constraints.
The Australian Made Summer of Tennis celebrates home grown athletes and local industry, highlighting the importance of supporting both to ensure a better future for all Australians.
“We are proud to support rural and regional Australia through this tournament,” Australian Made campaign chief executive Ian Harrison said.
“The Australian Made Foundation Cup reminds us all about the importance of nurturing local talent – whether that be the next generation of athletes, farmers or manufacturers.”
Other Australian Made Summer of Tennis highlights include ‘Breakfast with the Stars’ events in Melbourne during the Australian Open.
Roland is one of eight finalists on the state team to compete in the Australian Made Foundation Cup in January, which will be held at the West Lakes Tennis Club in South Australia.
“The Australian Made Foundation Cup is a fantastic event and it is a great achievement for all the NSW players selected,” Tennis NSW CEO Alistair MacDonald said.
“I know they will all be looking forward to the competition in January and we wish all the players the best of luck.”
The best and fairest male and female players will each receive a $1000 cheque, presented by the Australian Made Campaign and the Fed Cup Foundation, to help with their tennis development.
“Rural Australia has produced tennis legends like Rod Laver, Margaret Court and Pat Rafter,” Fed Cup Foundation president Judy Dalton said.
“It’s important that we create opportunities like the Australian Made Foundation Cup for the kids so they can develop their talents.”
