Steven had to chase the mulloway for about 20 minutes with the electric motor, before landing it. He thought it was a big flathead because it was shaking a lot on the light outfit.
“I was fishing on my own, the line took off, so one-handed, I brought in the anchor in and put the electric down and the chase was on,” Steven tells us. “15 to 20 minutes later landed my first mulloway.”
The fish went just over 1-meter long, even Darren from ocean hut had to measure it for himself, and the weight was 8 kilos. Well done Steven – a great effort considering you fought and landed it by yourself!
Regular visitor and previous winning competitor in the Narooma Flathead Challenge, Paul Mayer fished Wagonga Inlet on Saturday and got a nice 88cm dusky on a ¼, 4/0 Jigman jighead and a Munroes soft plastic flick bait. “Man I love Narooma,” he posted on Facebook.
In addition to the big white pointer lured into the shallows at Potato Point last week, there have also been reports of more big salmon being caught off the beach in that location.
Narooma Sport and Gamefishing Club members Lou Moore, Pete Rando and Les Waldock fished in 60 metres of water off Tuross Head on Thursday for a great catch of snapper and assorted reef fish. They were using both squid and striped tuna baits, and the snapper caught were up to three kilos in weight. “A great mornings fish.”
NSGFC member Bob Hirs meanwhile bagged out on snapper at Lakes Entrance by 6.30am one morning last week. The biggest fish went 83cm. “Pity they don't grow like that here!” Check out Bob’s fish and more catches in the online version of this report.

Bermagui Social Anglers – A happy band of members of the Bermagui Country Club Social Anglers’ Club turned up on Sunday for the barbecue lunch and the celebration of members’ birthdays. The patronage and the fishing competitions made for a very successful get-together. Announcing the winners, president Fran firstly thanked members’ contributions, also the barbecue cooks – and winning the offshore Ian Reid did very well, with Robert Brown taking out the onshore mixed bag. To Elaine and Gerry it was a very “happy birthday” wish. Of course, the usual raffle was a winner for Shirley, while Jeanette won second prize. The Christmas get-away at Wallaga Lake Caravan Park over November 25-26 was discussed with final numbers booking. – CAUGHT UP
