Local interest was on the talented Illawarra Bungarra side which played strongly during the event and reached the women’s final against the Northern Nations.
The championships was the first fully national event that will bring together Indigenous teams from across Australia together compete for the coveted prize of national soccer champions.
A total of 24 teams will be taking part in the tournament with teams coming all the way from Darwin and Mt Isa.
The Wreck Bay Football Club was the host club of the competition.
All the results, plus an interview with Anthony Mundine who attended the event, will appear in Wednesday’s South Coast Register.
