Expensive stopover
On a recent stopover in Berry I received a parking fine from Shoalhaven City Council for parking nose to kerb instead of rear to kerb in a very ambiguous location.

Being a business owner in a South Coast holiday town myself it disheartens me that this type of revenue is being raised for such an insignificant “infringement”.
I hope your local chamber of commerce has something to say to the council about these types of fines because you are going to need all the encouragement you can get to entice people to leave the highway and come into town once the bypass is completed and I definitely won't be making the effort for my coffee break after being stung $108.

Abbott looks better
The first steps in the possible return of Tony Abbott as Prime Minister have surely been taken.
The call by some for Abbott to be returned to the ministry is an indication the that the poor polling of Malcolm Turnbull is starting to cause concern.
Labor would much prefer to face Turnbull at the next election rather than Tony Abbott. The loss of 14 seats at the last election was a wake-up call to the conservatives and the catalyst for the increased activity of the Abbott supporters.

Test of endurance
The XPD Adventure Race really is the most arduous race imaginable.
It starts on Thursday at 12.30pm. A torturous 630km race. Four hundred elite athletes from more than 20 countries will compete in the Shoalhaven race. It will take five or more days before we will know the winner. They will have to climb mountains, find checkpoints in caves, white water kayak, undertake long mountain bike rides and clamber through the bush. They will have to cope with frustration, sleep deprivation and pain. I will be one of the Adventure Race addicts who will lose sleep in order to closely follow the teams (who all carry satellite trackers) on the www.xpd.com.au website.
There are a number of fantastic things that this race offers to those lucky enough to live on the South Coast. First, it puts Shoalhaven on the international map. Second, it will inspire a lot of us to explore our beautiful surrounds. Third, it will encourage some of us to work on our fitness.
Well done to Shoalhaven City Council for supporting this event, and well done to those smart enough to live here.

Road should be sealed
Below is a request for road sealing sent to Ward 1 councillors.
“I write the letter to ask for your assistance in attaining the sealing of The Links Road, South Nowra.
With the expansion of the South Nowra business precinct, the South Coast Correctional Centre and Flinders Industrial Estate we have realised a marked increase in traffic on The Links Road and Prosperity Road, South Nowra, including heavy equipment over the past 10 years. All residents on the road are concerned and foresee even greater traffic flows. As the road is dirt we are experiencing larger volumes of dust because of the increased traffic.
Recently, we had an accident at the bend on The Links Road. This cracked a concrete power pole that required replacement. It is only a matter of time until a death occurs due to the unsealed road and the amount of traffic on the unsafe road that prevails.
We urge you to please seal these roads. It is council policy to seal all roads within a 5km radius of the CBD. We have truly being punished too long. The Links Road and Prosperity Road South Nowra must be sealed!”
When the accident I mention occurred, it sent a power surge through surrounding properties, causing in excess of $100,000 worth of damage.
