The service is Australia’s only dedicated loss and grief national telephone counselling service.

Mr Jorgensen is one of ten cycling from Canberra to Melbourne to raise funds to support the continuation of the service.

Kicking off on Monday, November 7, the six day ‘Razor Ride’ will see Mr Jorgensen cycle around 120 kilometres a day.

Mr Jorgensen said his own line of work has highlighted the need for the valuable phone service.

“A significant problem in modern Australia is dealing with the emotional trauma of sudden and unexpected events, whether they occur in either the personal or work environment,” he said. 

“Working in the insurance industry, I see my clients struggle to come to terms with very sudden, unexpected and major changes in their lives, and the repercussions that has to their mental health.

“Having a professional resource such as GriefLine available to assist in the healing process has helped a number of my clients in the past, and without continuing community support, GriefLine may not be there to help when my clients need it in the future.”

GriefLine’s volunteer counsellors undergo intensive training and are professionally supported, providing anonymous support and specialist counselling to individuals and families.

The ride will be led by co-Founder of the Chamberlain Foundation and Senior AFL Field Umpire, Ray Chamberlain. 

In 2015, Ray, together with his brothers Peter and Brian, established a the Chamberlain Foundation to support organisations providing services to people suffering with mental health and suicide.

Since its conception, the Chamberlain Foundation has raised $50,000 for suicide prevention. 

The proceeds from the Razor Ride will be used to fund pilot programs identified by both GriefLine and the Chamberlain Foundation in an attempt to further curb the instance of suicide and help support those finding themselves at such a point in their lives along with those closest to them.
