Once they were prepared by teachers and a garden expert, students dug in to build a garden from scratch on Wednesday.
“For the last few months we’ve talked about starting a garden after we had some parents approach us and ask if we could start a vegetable garden,” relieving school principal Cathie Glennan said.
“We thought it was a fabulous idea.”
The project was the result of collaboration between local businesses and families, Bunnings Warehouse, Shoalhaven Sands, cafe Ninety One Junction and the McLean Family were instrumental in getting the idea off the ground.
“They’ve donated everything; their time and their resources. It’s been amazing,” Mrs Glennan said.
The garden will form the foundations for an outdoor education centre at Terara Public School.
“It’s about growing your own crop and learning where food comes from, how you can do it yourself and having a great time doing it,” she said.
“Each class will have their own vegetable patch to maintain, so it’s also about teaching them responsibility and things like that.”
