On October 6 minister for Family and Community Services (FACS) Brad Hazzard announced the transfer of management of about 18,000 social housing properties in NSW to the community housing sector.
The management rights to about 1000 properties owned by Housing NSW in the Shoalhaven will be determined by a competitive tender bid.
Southern Cross Community Housing (trading as Southern Cross Housing) welcomed the decision.
The organisation has been the Shoalhaven’s community housing provider for more than 30 years currently managing over 800 social housing properties in the Shoalhaven including 296 in Ulladulla.
Southern Cross Housing CEO Alex Pontello said Southern Cross Housing embraced the challenge.
“We will continue to provide second-to none customer service, while promoting social inclusion,” Mr Pontello said.
“No doubt the competitive tender process will attract submissions from community housing providers outside the Shoalhaven, however Southern Cross Housing has an impeccable reputation, overwhelming support from local community groups, and evidence-based service delivery outcomes to support a winning bid.
“We are also committed to ensure we do everything possible to provide ongoing employment to local FACS staff. This employment strategy will be outlined in detail within our tender submission,’ Mr Pontello said.
Southern Cross Housing will host a community Christmas party in Parramatta Park Nowra East on Monday December 19 to kick start the school holidays.
The event will commence with a barbecue at noon and will include a host of activities for families. The event will also serve as an opportunity for the local community to meet the team from Southern Cross Housing and find out more about what we do as a community housing provider.
