The soon-to-be 17-year-old was recently named in the Greater Southern Region Stingrays squad for the upcoming 2017 season.
“Despite not knowing too much about the selection process, it has always been a goal of mine to get selected for the Stingrays,” Wishart said.
“I can't wait to train and play and meet some new people. In rugby league, it's one of the highest achievements for me.
“I played for Group 7 from under 13 through to under 16s and I enjoyed every bit of it, so I can't wait to play at an even higher level.”
Born and raised in Gerringong, the half who guided his Lions team into the Group 7 under 18s decider this season, is keen to test himself against the best the state has to offer.
“From hearing from older mates who have played in it before, it seems like a great team to be apart of,” he said.
“I know other NSW Country regions are very strong in rugby league and it will be a great opportunity to play against some tough teams and I'm looking forward to the challenge.”
That enthusiastic attitude optimises Wishart, who said his father Rod has never put any pressure on him to follow in his footsteps.

“Dad’s never put any pressure on me to play,” he said.
“I love footy and always have and it's been my choice to play and if I didn't want to, he wouldn't have had a problem with it.
“I've always looked up to him mostly as a person but to get good advise and having him to always train with is great.”
Wishart will be joined by fellow Group 7 players including Milton-Ulladulla’s Boyd Brayshaw and Albion Park-Oak Flats’ Jake Brisbane.
