After finishing in the runner-up position in the Wahu Surfer Groms Comp series on Sydney’s Northern Beaches last week, Culburra’s Keira Buckpitt proved to be unstoppable in the under 12 girls, posting two scores in the excellent range, an 8.33 and a 8.83 (out of a possible 10 points) to give her a 17.16 heat total.
The aforementioned heat total left all fellow finalists chasing a combination of decent scores to take away Buckpitt’s lead.
Austinmer’s Zahlia Short finished second, ahead of Jan Juc’s Mia Huppatz and Werri Beach’s Holly Wishart.
Two other competition’s, the under 10 girls and under 10 boys, were also staged at the weekend. Maroubra’s Tiana Darragh won the under 10 girls, ahead of Shyla Short (Austinmer), while Freshwater’s Fletcher Kelleher took out the under 10 boys, ahead of Jake Feher (Matraville).
