Levi Johns’ long distance break away provided him with a solo win in the division one race while Ian Kielly tried a similar tactic in division two but was caught by a lone chaser and then rolled in the finish by Samantha Boyce.
Kielly attacked and made his break in the first five minutes of the div two event and was holding a half lap lead into the middle of race when Graham Johns and Sam Boyce slipped the chase bunch and began the pursuit of the lone leader.
Johns was gasping for breath as the chase went on and slipped back to the main group while Boyce made the catch and rode with Kielly to the finish to win by three lengths.
Brad Oaten grabbed third in the bunch kick from Dave Gray, Frank Neri, Alice Lauder, Mick Thompson, Hubert Driehuis, Graham Johns and Phil Jones.
Samantha Boyce was visiting Nowra for the weekend and lined up in only her second bike race to take this win. Samantha is a 19-year-old student at Sydney University and has just started racing with Rapha Velo.
The Levi Johns breakaway in division one also came early but this time Richard Vitiello saw the move and went across to the lead rider after a short chase.
With these two riders in the lead the time gap opened over the chase group. The constant driving into the wind saw Vitiello drop back with only 10 minutes of racing remaining.
Godfrey Green, Jade Colligan and Steve Crossman were constantly attacking the bunch as they tried to go clear also but then Johns made contact from behind giving him a lap lead over the field.
Johns cruised to the win while Green took the second place sprint finish by half a wheel from Nathan Crump with Steve Gendek fourth ahead of Aaron Lauder, Colligan, Crossman, Vitiello and Nick Johns.
Road racing returns next Sunday as the Nowra Velo Club holds the first round of the 2016 road championships.
