Teacher Paul Creighton said someone may have “let the cat out of the bag” with the hype building along school corridors.
“Just had to walk somewhere and the kids [would ask me] ‘when’s Cyrus coming?’ Being local, some of the kids were like ‘I served him at Maccas’; they just get a buzz by having someone high profile here,” he said.
Cyrus, the winner of last year’s X Factor, thanked students for raising $3085 – the most from any Illawarra school – before breaking into song with his acoustic guitar.
Students from the “fitness club” raised money by running 100 metres 100 times, one lap every minute.
Mr Creighton said it’s the fifth year the school has participated with around $14,000 raised over that time for charity, each year with a different recipient.
KidszWish will put the money towards their new facility in Flinders.
