Matthew Stephen Bishiop, 31, was driving south on the Princes Highway at Falls Creek around 6.40pm on December 11 last year when he was detected by police radar travelling at 184km/h in a 100 zone.
As police started their pursuit, officers said Bishop sped up even more and was travelling at an estimated 200km/h.
His attempted bid for freedom came to a shuddering halt as he turned into Jervis Bay Road and almost instantly collided head on with a small pantech truck.
Bishop later told police he knew he was speeding but had “panicked” when he had seen officers and “just took off”.
In Nowra Local Court, Magistrate Darryl Pearce sentenced Bishop to nine-months’ jail with a non-parole period of six months on the charges of reckless driving and police pursuit.
He was also disqualified from driving for three years.
