The 10-year-old had a extraordinary return from his four events in Darwin, claiming two gold and two silver medals.
On Friday, September 16, Higham swam the third leg (butterfly) of the 10 year old 4x50 metre medley relay, which NSW A team won the gold medal.
He backed it up on the Saturday, win individual gold in the boys 10 year old 50 metre butterfly, swimming it in a personal best time 33.28.
Three days later on Tuesday, Higham claimed silver in the boys 10 year old 50 metre backstroke, finishing second to Hayden Hoang from NSW with Jensen Goodchild also from NSW in third place.
The same day, Higham secured another silver in the boys 10 year old 100 metre freestyle.
In another close final, he finished second to Goodchild in a personal best time of 1:07.60.
“These results rank at the very top of my career to date,” Higham said.
“I was very excited to represent NSW for the first time at a National Championships and it was a great experience and I made some new friends during the week of competition.
Higham, who qualified for the nationals through his success at the NSW PSSA State Championships, earlier in the year, credited numerous influential people for his achievements.
“I’d like to thank my swimming coach Janine Sparks for all her hard work and mum and dad for taking me to training and swim carnivals.
“I’d also like to thank the Bernie Regan Sporting Trust for their support.”
The Nowra Hill Public School student is now enjoying a holiday break before returning to training for the Swimming NSW State Age Championships in early December.
He will also be competing at the NSW PSSA State Athletic Championships at SOPAC on October 19 and 20 in the 10 year old boys 200m sprint and long jump.
