The only people smiling as car occupants suffered the traffic jam were shareholders in multi-national petroleum companies.
As as a photo I took in Berry Street testifies, it wasn’t just the Princes Highway carrying car loads of frustrated motorists – and the problem only grows at each holiday time.
The western bypass around Nowra was proposed over a decade ago.
Despite this the State Government appears to have no plans except to take the freeway it’s presently constructing only as far as Bomaderry.
This of course will result in more gridlock at the existing river crossing.
It’s time the State Government built the western bypass.
An alternative to sitting in traffic jams would be available to holidaymakers and residents alike if the State Government got on with constructing a rail bridge over the Shoalhaven and offered a fast passenger rail service to the growing South Coast.

Not happy, Mike Baird
Premier Mike Baird`s future appears to be laced with much uncertainty.
Tony Abbott summed it up pretty well by saying, the first thing a political leader must do is to do no harm.
Sadly Mike Baird has ignored this basic tenet and here is list of examples.
The Greyhound ban, forced council amalgamations and the recent activities of the ICAC and their adverse treatment of respectable citizens.
The list goes on and the mental and physical injuries inflicted upon individuals as a result of poor policy and inept governance is there for all to see.
The polls indicate a collapse in support for his government to such a degree that his survival as leader is under threat.
His party colleagues driven by self interest may shortly move to replace him and this may not be such a bad thing.
For reasons only known to yourself Mike Baird you have done too much harm to too many good people to survive!

Village lifestyle threatened
A modification for the removal of all Strata Title from the proposed four storey flat development in Anson Street Sanctuary Point has been made to the Shoalhaven council.
The original Development Application for a Strata title indicates that the building will be "owner occupied", and built to the Strata building code.
This building does not meet Strata regulations.
Removal of the Strata Title allows the building to be built on the site with less stringent fire and safety requirements. This building has been called the "Benchmark" for future developments.
The height of 13metres has been granted along Anson Street.
This is inappropriate and unsuitable to the community of St Georges basin.
This development would be the beginning of the end of our village lifestyle.

Too many cars
The proposed four story block of flats in Anson Street St Georges Basin is detrimental to the Community. The two buildings on the site would have parking for 107 cars.
If the cars only left the building once a day this would be 214 movements exiting and returning.
If this DA 16/1830 is approved there could be 12 more buildings in this short section of Anson Street.
This could mean a minimum of 1500 car movements a day.
This will be detrimental to the community.
