Sue Gregan was the first person to the ring the newly donated treatment bell, signifying the end of her chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
After six months of chemo and 25 days of radiation therapy Sue said she was “overwhelmed to finally be finished and the chiming of the bell made it that much sweeter of a moment.”
The bell was generously donated by Sue’s niece Karlene and husband Craig Hosking.
“Having seen them at other hospitals, we were surprised that Shoalhaven didn’t have one,” Karlene said.
“The treatment bell is for patients to ring after their final treatment to commemorate the milestone and act as a piece of mind for patients.”
Both Craig and Karlene hope the bell chimes spread happiness throughout the hospital but ultimately, they wait until the day it stops.
“The day it stops ringing will be the day we find a cure for cancer and that can’t come soon enough,” they said.
