The Narooma Under 14s girls rugby team known as the Emeralds, played in the Viva Super 7s at Jindabyne on Saturday. On a great day for rugby, players from 18 teams contested three age divisions.
In the hotly contested Under 14 division, the Narooma Emeralds showed some good skills and courage to win their way to the final.
There were a couple of tough encounters on the way but the Narooma girls were able to beat a much larger Canberra Vikings team in the final.
Speed and agility in attack was matched by doggedness and courage in defence, with all players making essential contributions to bring the day to a successful conclusion.
This is a club-based competition but most of the players come from Narooma High School. This was the first tournament in a series of four.
In two weeks, the Super 7s shifts to Goulburn then in subsequent weeks it will be played at Braidwood and finally Canberra. Competition points are earned in each round so this was a great start to the campaign.
The Emeralds would like to thank all the parents and supporters who travelled to Jindabyne.
