This caps of a hectic past three months for the 24-year-old, which she said have been the best of her life to date.
“I found out I was in the final four to be nominated for the award a couple of weeks ago but realistically, I thought one of the Helensburgh girls would win it, as they won the competition,” Atfield said.
“Luckily enough I won the award, which is even more special as it was my first year playing senior rugby league.
“It caps off a sensational and crazy past couple of months.
“If someone had told me at the start of the year that I would play representative league tag, play for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks and win player of the year for the Illawarra competition, I wouldn’t have believed them.”
