Eddie Hayson, a former brothel owner who has been banned from the TAB and The Star casino, has come under intense scrutiny for his relationships with NRL stars and his alleged involvement in three suspicious NRL games.

On Wednesday, the Organised Crime Squad announced they had launched a Strike Force after examining information relating to at least three matches.

Suspicion surrounds betting activity on matches between South Sydney, Manly and Parramatta from last season as well as another game from April between the Sea Eagles and Eels.

Speaking on Sydney radio station 2GB on Wednesday afternoon, Hayson categorically denied fixing any matches and said police would end up with "egg on their face".

Fairfax Media has previously reported that he allegedly paid six Manly players $50,000 each to tank a 2015 match, which Souths won 20-8.

"There wouldn't be six players over there that would cheat on their girlfriends let alone a match. That's how square the Manly boys are, it's a complete joke," he told radio host Ben Fordham.

He accused a gentleman who "wears a wig" of making up the allegations because he had a grudge against Manly.

Hayson strenuously denied having bets on the suspicious matches but said "if I did it would have been very, very minor and maybe $20,000-$30,000."

He said Parramatta's 20-16 win over Manly last year could not have been fixed "because they were playing for the semi-final".

Regarding Parramatta's 22-10 win over Manly in April, in which some of the winnings from a successful betting plunge ended up in Eels player Kieran Foran's account, he said: "I can't understand how they're accusing match fixing when the accusation is against players there that actually won the game".

Hayson said he hoped the police got "300 of their best and the boss of homicide [squad] and the boss of the old armed hold-ups [squad] and three assistant commissioners" because it would clear him once and for all.

"Nobody's gonna get me for match fixing because it doesn't exist," he said.

"The cops got sold a big lemon here, the cops sold journos a lemon ... its too big a story now to fizzle out but it will fizzle out eventually and everyone's gonna have egg on their face.

"[The players are] too proud of their clubs. They would never do that. The players I know they love their clubs and that's all they do."

Fairfax Media has been told interviews with people of interest will begin on Thursday, just a day before Brisbane and the Gold Coast open the NRL finals series at Suncorp Stadium.

Police will start questioning dozens of players and officials, although there is no suggestion that those summoned have committed any offence.
