The town is gearing up for the first cheese section to be held at the 2017 Kangaroo Valley Show and is holding workshops this month in preparation.
Anyone fancying themselves as a budding fromagère is encouraged to attend a workshop on Saturday, September 17 at Kangaroo Valley Hall.
The event will focus on making brie, havarti and greek style yoghurts.
Tickets are $180 and includes lunch, all ingredients and cheeses to take home.
Patrick Reubinson, president of the Bemboka Secret Cheese society in Bega will be running the workshop from 9am to 4pm.
Cheese lover and Kangaroo Valley resident Kathy Harrington said the workshops aim to promote next year’s inaugural cheese competition.
“As far as I know there’s no shows between here and Bemboka that have a cheese section so we’re really looking forward to it,” she said.
“We have a national cheese judge, Carol Willman coming from Victoria for the show.”
Mrs Harrington will be working on some extra special cheese creations this month.
“My son is getting married at the Hunter Valley in November so I’m making a cheese wedding cake,” she said.
“I’ve been working with Patrick and we have made cheddar and harvati and this time will work on some blue cheeses for it.
“We have to make the cheeses to time them to be ripe for the wedding, that’s critical.”
To book your spot at the workshop contact Kathy on 04 1828 0110 as soon as possible.
