The announcement was made at the Nowra Show Society luncheon on Wednesday.
“We are so excited, it’s the first major grant the show society has had for many years, the last one was when we built the committee room,” Nowra Show Society president Wendy Woodward said.
“This has been something we have wanted to do for the last 10 years as the last time anything was done on the kitchen was 1988.”
Mrs Woodward described the facility as a community kitchen and said the upgrade would benefit many groups which use the facility on a regular basis.
“Once it’s upgraded the community will be able to use it more for weddings, parties and all that sort of thing because it will be more commercial. It will be a great kitchen,” Mrs Woodward said.
“We would like to thank the State Government and in particular Niall Blair who overlooks this area. He opened the show for us in February, while he was here he looked at the kitchen and we impressed on him then the need for an upgrade, he was very aware of what was needed in the kitchen.”
It is hoped the renovation will be completed prior to the 2017 Nowra Show.
