The centre hosted a fundraiser in aid of muscular dystrophy as part of Australia’s National Superhero week, which runs from August 29 to September 4.
“We have held this fundraiser for the last few years. Fundraising is part of our philosophy at the centre,” director Dianne Blackie said.
“We talk with the children about how some people’s muscles don’t work. We tell them some people are in a wheelchair because their muscles are not working or because of other conditions they might have and we explain to them it’s OK to be different.”
National Superhero Week is in its 16th year and invites workplaces and schools to nominate a day for everyone to don their best superhero costume and make a monetary donation.
Proceeds from National Superhero Week support Muscular Dystrophy Australia's programs, services and research at the National Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre.
