The Colour Me Fun Run Shoalhaven will be part of this year’s Shoalhaven River Festival on Sunday, October 23.
Organiser Mark Stewart from 100 % Events, is hoping for a big turn out of entrants and volunteers for this year’s event.
“This year we are backing White Ribbon and in particular the Shoalhaven group,” he said.
“Last year we supported the Rural Fire Service.
“We can’t organise or run an event like this without volunteers. We need about 100 to make the event a success.”
Mr Stewart said for each volunteer at the Colour Me Fun Run a certain amount of money is donated to the organisation they support.
“Volunteers enjoy the event as much as the participants,” Mr Stewart said.
“You don’t have to work on one of the colour stations, you could be on a drink station, work in registrations. There are many other jobs you can be part of.
“We welcome anyone to volunteer, be they from a service organisation, sporting groups or high school students.
“The event is all about having fun and raising some money for local groups.
“White Ribbon Shoalhaven is a great local organisation and we are proud to have them as our community partners this year.
“We would also welcome any backers who want to come on board and sponsor the various colour stations.”
Money raised for White Ribbon Shoalhaven will be passed to the Domestic Violence Intervention Service and crisis accommodation fund.
“Hopefully, we can raise enough money to ensure women escaping domestic violence don’t have to sleep on police station floors or camp at the Nowra Showground as has been the case for the past couple of years,” said White Ribbon Shoalhaven advocate Kate Campbell.
“Or have to put their kids into care because they can’t look after them.”
Ms Campbell said while raising money for White Ribbon, the event was also about raising awareness of the local services and what are available.
“Last year was such an awesome event,” Mr Stewart said.
“This year, by taking part you can not only have fun but support a great local service.
“We are keen to make this a long term arrangement between the event and White Ribbon Shoalhaven.”
YWCA members, who run the Domestic Violence Intervention Unit at Nowra Police Station, will be volunteering at the event, which is hoped to raise between $3000 and $5000 for the service.
