Every player rose to the occasion as soon as they ran on the field, where determination and great team work was displayed right from kick-off. Centre Kurt Wisniewski was strong in attack for the Swamp Rats charging his way down the sideline to score two tries. Captain Jeramiah Welsh side-stepped his way around the defensive line to race away and score out wide where he then converted the goal. To give the Swamp rats an 18 – 4 lead at half time Toby Scotcher ran the full length of the field to cross the line and scored a try.
It wasn’t over yet as Warilla hit back in the second half edging closer to the Swamp Rats but the victory was sealed when Drue Johnston worked his way through the Gorilla’s to score alongside the post.
Our women’s tackle team contested their first ever semi-final against Corrimal, the team kept their best performance for last and fought until the final siren but were narrowly defeated 20-16. Talia Atfield showed her talent scoring a fantastic try. Jessica little showed her class manoeuvring her way around the defence to score a try and put the score locked a 12 all at half time. Corrimal hit the lead but when Melanie Williams powered over the top of the opposition to score out wide scores were locked at 16 all and the clock ticking down. When Corrimal scored late in the second half to go ahead the Swamp rats kept their composure then with time out called due to injury and a minute remaining on the clock the Swampies had three final tackles remaining but it wasn’t to be and this would be their final game of the season .
Our under 13s, 14s and 16s all suffered a loss in what would be their final game for the season.
There will be more rugby league action at the sporting complex with Bomaderry hosting the international semi finals.
