Wilbraham recent defended his cage fighting bantamweight title which he stunned himself by winning early in the year against the more experienced Storm Damage Mixed Martial Arts fighter Luke Standing.
He won the title back in March but recently defended the professional title against Standing.
“I accepted the rematch against him in March,” Wilbraham said.
“Off course he wanted rematch because you don’t want to lose to a novice like me.”
He said Standing took the first defeat with sportsmanship but was out for revenge.
The 23 -year old headed down to Canberra to defend this title and defeated Standing in record style.
“I am the first fighter to ever fight on the very next card to defend their belt and the first storm damage fighter to defend the title.
“Every other fighter have got a title but then lost it the next fight
He was set to take on the determined Standing.
“We knew he was going to some in with his hand strikes because he is a good boxer
“Our plan was the take him down and get him on the ground.”
However the two ended up exchanging punches and Wilbraham rocked his opponent who also threw plenty of punches.
“I was getting a bit rocked but I gave him a bit of a smile to show I was enjoying it,” the Nowra based fighter said.
He managed to slam his opponent down and just went in strong for the win.
“I knew there was not long in the round and I knew if I did not finish him then he would had got me in the next round because I was buggered,” he said.
The ref called it in the first round of the five round bout and it only lasted t 4.30 minutes
Wilbraham said Standing took the loss with grace.
Standing said he had fought some of the best fighters going around and added Wilbraham had the goods.
Wilbraham aims to train hard and keep on getting better.
He trains with the local club War Harmer at the gymnastics hall at the Nowra Showground.
