Who will be our representatives and what will they represent? The current crop, other than Gareth Ward, appear to have tin ears when it comes to the pressing needs of their constituents.

Bashing up the greyhound industry while ignoring the activities of the ICAC won`t win Mike Baird many friends.

The banks are running roughshod over the federal government so you see the tin ear syndrome, is evident is it not?

If we are to trust our governments they must at least appear trustworthy and the massive swing against Turnbull’s lot is evidence that they are not.

Time for all parties to pay more attention to local, not global issues if they expect to be returned. 

During the last election the Member for Gilmore Ann Sudmalis in one of her flyers to Sanctuary Point residents, said how she lobbied hard to get money to build a skate park, CCTV cameras for the shops and supporting local jobs and growth.

Well, let’s hope it’s not true the skate park job went to a Tweed Heads company and the CCTV cameras installation went to Coffs Harbour Council, all via Shoalhaven City Council.

So much for for supporting local jobs – it’s more like looking after the economies of other regions and not the Shoalhaven.

I am sure many Australians, particularly Australian Defence personnel, are alarmed about our government not giving visas to Australian Defence Force interpreters and cultural advisers in Afghanistan.

These Afghan people gave invaluable service to our armed forces and quite possibly some of that advice would have saved lives of some of our own personnel.

This service to Australia has placed them and their families in grave danger of retaliation by locals and insurgents like the Taliban and ISS.

I am informed the Americans have given their interpreters visas. For us to not do so would be a despicable act. 

It would be another example of why the West, and Australia, can not be trusted by others around the world.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull needs to make a "captain’s call" to give these people visas and to bring them and their families to Australia and away from a probable death sentence in their own country for helping our troops.

The newly re-elected Liberal member for Gilmore, Ann Sudmalis, whose constituents make up part of our Defence Force, needs to get on the phone to her leader to help rectify this situation. 

The Medicare consultation fee rebate for “bulk billing” has only changed once since 2012 – in 2014 Tony Abbott reduced the rebate from $37.05 to $32.05. To rub salt into the wound, on budget night, Malcolm Turnbull kept the rebate unchanged ($32.05) until a further review in 2020-21.

To explain, doctors that do not “bulk bill” get paid before seeing their patients. Doctors that “bulk bill” give a free consultation. To compensate the doctor, the government pay a scheduled fee, in this case ($32.05) for every free consultation.

If the normal consultation fee is $80 the bulk billing doctor, in this case, will lose close to $4800 every 100 patients.

Malcolm Turnbull and Scott Morrison say they do not want to destroy Medicare. These are falsehoods. 

Without bulk billing, every individual arriving at a doctors surgery will have to pay a fee – a fee, in many cases, that will only be affordable for those earning high incomes.
