South Coast and Tablelands Holstein branch president Paul Condon said the committee was excited to be hosting the annual event.
“We see this event as a positive one in our dairy industry,” Mr Condon said.
“With the industry going through some very tough and downward times at the moment, it is important to be able to show-off and celebrate what we do well; breeding quality well cared for cattle.”
Mr Condon is welcoming everyone to visit to the Nowra Showgrounds cattle arena on August 27.
“We have 150 animals entered coming from close to 50 exhibitors,” Mr Condon said.
“The exhibitors are coming from all over the state including Tamworth,Taree, Hunter Valley, Western Sydney and down south from Bega and Cobargo. There is also some breeders coming up from the far south of NSW at Finley and Cohuna in northern Victoria.
“The show will also be supported by a strong local contingent from the south coast area.”
Mr Condon said cattle judge Mr Joel Phoenix form Ontario Canada would be judging at the show
“Joel is a young judge with a wealth of experience in judging, showing and breeding Holstein dairy cattle through his dairy business Dappleview Holsteins,” he said.
The enthusiastic show committee have been going through preparations since late last year to secure the show for the region.
“The important part was to secure a top quality judge which we have done,” Mr Condon said.
“Then getting the support of sponsorship that is important to be able to operate this show event. We have had tremendous replies and commitment from rural and industry businesses as well as community and general business bodies from local, state and national.
“We have also been working closely with the Nowra Show committee preparing the cattle show area for the event. With installation of extra power, water and lighting to give the exhibitors the best facilities available.”
An elite Holstein Sale to be held at the Nowra Showgrounds undercover in the show ring is scheduled for the Friday night before the show, August 26.
NSW State Holstein Show commences at 8am on Saturday, August 27. Entry is free and full catering facilities supplied by Nowra Show Committee.
