The government’s decision to axe all paper tickets on public transport from August 1 is designed to move people to the Opal card.
But people who climb on a bus without an Opal card will still be able to get a ride.
“After 1 August customers travelling on buses operating across the Illawarra, Sydney and other surrounding regions will still be able to buy Opal bus single trip tickets,” a Transport for NSW spokeswoman said.
“These tickets are part of the Opal system and can be used for journeys across the public transport network, but Opal cards will by far be the best and easiest way to travel.”
More than two million Opal customers have taken 50 million trips a month across all modes.
