At the Nowra Showground, the Gorillas defeated the hosts 38-18, all but ending their chance of playing finals football in 2016.
It didn’t take long for the visitors to assert their dominance, after half Josh Kent found space on the right edge.
A slick pass to his winger Jarryd Pepper put him in space, before the outside did the rest, leaving his opposite number Isaac Mumberson flat-footed, to score in the corner.
Five-eighth Blair Grant missed the kick and the Gorillas led 4-nil.
The lead was doubled after Kent found himself the recipient of a Aaron Henry inside ball, to score.
Grant again missed and the lead was eight.
Henry is again involved in the Gorillas’ third try, as he threw a cut-out pass to a flying Blake Colgan, as the score moved to 12-nil after Blair again misses.
Things got worse for the Jets, who lost Nathan Falzon to an ankle injury, just before the Gorillas had their fourth, halfway through the first stanza.
This time, winger Jake Kinzett scored in the left corner, only for Grant to again miss.
The Jets would then lose Ryan James with a neck injury, which he did not return from.
Just before the break, the Gorillas extended the lead after a scrum, deep in their own half.
Kent made a break, ran 40 metres before offloading to speedy fullback Chad Lisch on the inside, who juggled it three times before gathering the ball, to score next to the posts.
Grant finally landed a conversion and the score at the break was 22-nil.
With their season hanging on by a thread, the Jets knew they needed to be first to score in the second half.
And they looked destined to, through Dwyane Connors, but Grant pulled off a sensational try-saving tackle, to push the Jets’ outside-back out of the field of play.
It was made worse for the Jets minutes later, when Lisch scored his second try for the afternoon.
Grant converted and the score was 28-nil.
The hosts finally got on the board through Zac Kershaw.
Following a strong run from Ben Lahene and a quick dart from Kurt Quinlan, back-rower Kershaw dived over.
Mark Brandon converted and the lead was 28-6.
But just when the Jets had a little momentum, it was taken away when Jacob Dolan was sin-binned for dissent before Connors was sent-off for repeated shoulder charges.
Being two extra men up led to Kinzett scoring his second try of the afternoon before Mark Walsh scored the easiest try of his career, strolling over untouched next to the posts.
After the Grant conversion, the score was 38-6 with 18 to go.
But to the hosts credit, they dug deep and scored two late converted tries through Mark Brandon and Tyson Simpson.
The score ended 38-18 and the victors were led by Henry, Kent, Ben Cotter and Lisch.
While for the Jets, Lahene, Ben Wellington and Steve Brandon tried hard all day.
