United coach Trevor Skingle will be looking for the recent good form to continue against Manyana, with United moving to third position after last week’s results.
Manyana broke their run of four draws with a 1-0 win over Basin last week. They managed to draw with Culburra and Gerringong in the past five weeks, which indicates they are in good form. They sit in fifth position and are close enough to gain a top four position in coming weeks. They have one of the best defensive records in the competition, however they also have the worst attack. United won the first round 1-0. This game is also expected to be close, with a draw the likely result.
Basin will play Huskisson in what’s usually a close fought local derby. Basin put in another solid effort against Manyana last week, however coach Paul Cubbo will want to turn close losses into draws or wins. He’ll be looking to have the likes of Dane McGinn, Ashley Hale and Simon Cubbo on deck for this game.
Huskisson have had some unexpected results this year, including last week’s 4-4 draw with Bomaderry. Huskisson have managed to go 12 games without defeat, with a win over Culburra and a draw with Gerringong.
However, they’ve also drawn with lowly placed Basin and Shoalhaven Heads. The first round was a 2-2 draw and no matter where these teams are positioned, a close game is always expected. Huskisson should be able to do enough to win this time around.
Illaroo will host Shoalhaven Heads in what should be another tight game.
Like United, Illaroo’s last game was three weeks ago. Their last conquest was Bomaderry in round 10.
Coach Andrew Timbs will be looking for good performances from Evan Leedham, Aaron Crittenden, Alex Cheyne and Slade Small.
Heads have had good results in their last few games, with a win over Gerringong and a draw with Milton. Their recent good form has coincided with the return of several players. Heads are slowly moving up the table and are sure to cause problems for more fancied rivals in coming weeks. Illaroo won the first round 3-0. While Heads are doing better now, Illaroo should still take maximum points.
The final match this round is between Bomaderry and Culburra. Bomaderry were fantastic against Huskisson last week and actually led 4-1 at half-time before having to settle for a 4-4 draw.
This result alone shows that any side on their day can compete with any other. Now his team has shown what it can do, coach Ben Foley will be looking for strong performances every week.
Last week, Culburra went down to competition leaders Gerringong to a penalty late in the game.
Culburra probably feel they deserved at least a draw from this match. They had more chances than Gerringong but couldn’t put them away.
While Gerringong are now four points in front, the Cougars do have a game in hand. Culburra won the first encounter 5-0 and a similar result is expected this week.
Deferred games from round 15 will be played on Sunday.
