To a place called Araby. Once the fable jewel in the desert is now in dire straits.
The King has passed away, leaving a power vacuum.
This is the journey you will take this week at the St John’s Catholic High School play, Sheik Rattle N Roll which will be performed in the school hall this Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
The performances will start at 7.30pm, with tickets available online (www.sjedow.catholic.edu.au), from the school office or the front of house on the evenings of the show.
The play has been described by director Peter Szota as the students’ take on Aladdin.
“The King dies and there is a plot to oust the rightful heir,” he said.
During the performance you will meet the Prince of Araby, his betrothed Princess Jasmine, his uncle Prince Abcess, the Queen the evil Caliph. There is even the Royal Sorceress, Ali Baba and and the Faulty Thieves, a lost Legionnaire and much more.
Students from years seven to 12 are taking part in the play, with 70 students directly on stage, while a further 30 are involved behind the scenes, working on music, back stage, lighting and sound.
