The Merimbula Big Game and Lakes Angling Club congratulates members Peter Haar, Kane McKill and David Sydenham for their efforts.
On charter vessel “Head Hunter” out of Bermagui, eight Bluefin were tagged and released off Batemans Bay.
During that exhilarating cruise at least 10 other fish were hooked but escaped and two taken.
Off Merimbula congratulations to member Dylan Smith of “Out For” with a 96kg Bluefin together with a number of Albacore.
Salmon and Tailor are frequenting our headlands and beaches.
Snapper and Morwong continue on local reefs from Eden to Tathra and beyond. Best results early morning and evening at reef edges. Both soft plastics and pilchard baits are very effective.
Sand and Tiger Flathead remain active try shallower waters as the temperatures drop.
We have reports of good fish off Short Point at 15 fathoms.
Great Drummer remain along the rocky headlands try cunjevoi.
With the moon filling it is now time to look for Jewfish with live baits with a good number of hookups reported from the Bega River.
Large Kingfish continue to grace the Merimbula Fishing Platform given suitable weather.
The Club extends its congratulations to Terry Mulcahy for his catch and release of a magnificent Kingfish last Sunday.
Terry was fishing with live bait beneath a float.
Squid as well as slimy mackerel also continue to provide good returns from the Platform.
Estuary fishing has slowed with the lower temperatures, however Bream, Dusky Flathead, Trevally, Tailor and Salmon can be enticed to play in Pambula Lake.
Congratulations to Graham Bywaters for his catch and release of two thumper Bream at Pambula.
The Club is holding its Salmon Sunday social at Haycock Beach on July 31 and looks forward to very large roll up for the competition and barbecue.
Every Friday the Club holds an Open House at Spencer Park, commencing 6.30pm.
Visitors are welcome, come and enjoy the fishing report, the ambiance, friendship and lovely views with very competitive bar prices.
