A council spokesman said that DA 567/12 for a community centre was lodged on April 16, 2012.
“The original application received a significant amount of submissions, with over 40 objections. “Council requested additional information to deal with bushfire hazard, proximity to riparian corridors and the ecological constraints of the site.
“The application included a school, group home, administration and consultation rooms, multi-purpose hall and relocation of the church.
“The site is located on Crosby Drive and access is from Crosby Drive.
“The site backs onto George Bass Drive in Sunshine Bay. There are rural residential properties located to the west of the site.
“During 2012 and 2013, there were ongoing discussions around the proposal but no resolution of the issues.
“In 2015, the applicant proposed an amended design to address the issues raised during the assessment (bushfire, riparian corridor and ecological). A revised application was received in December 2015; however the amended proposal did not address all the issues raised and in May 2016 the information was finally received.
“The revised application includes a reconfiguration of the development essentially relocating the car parking area to the eastern side of the development area and resitting Hope House (five bed group home), administration and consulting rooms, workshop and the multi-purpose hall.
“The proposed school and relocation of the church are no longer included in the DA.
“Adjoining residents were contacted by Council with information about the development, and given the interest shown to date, residents have been given an extension until early July to review the documentation and provide their feedback to Council.”
