Southern Branch 1st Grade took on Central Coast Mariners (away in Gosford) on Saturday in a catch-up game. The style of Central Coast team meant that the wide players of Southern could take advantage so long as the midfield could move the ball quickly. When they did they destroyed the opposition with Samara Wehmeyer besting her side of the field, setting up two goals for Southern's opposite winger, Amy Louise Clayton. Southern continued to dominate the game but to be fair to Central Coast, they worked tirelessly and we're obviously a fit and fast side. Their efforts came to fruition in the second half when they pulled a goal back. However, Southern held on for a well deserved win.

On Sunday, June 26, Southern had to back up the Saturday fixture with a game against Northern Tigers in Sydney. The Tigers are a fast, fit and strong team and for Southern, on the back of Saturday's fixture, this could not have come at a worse time. After half an hour Tigers scored off an own goal so the coaching staff quickly responded by changing the system. This enabled Southern to load the mid-field and press the Tigers. Despite tired legs, the Southern girls never gave in and created numerous chances to equalise. However this, up to now, has been the story of their season and they failed to capitalise on the opportunities to score. Despite full hearts and commitment they could not rally an equaliser and went down 1-0.
Coach Jim Ford said "I am looking forward to a moment this season when we can field our full strength team and play the same team at least once."
