Whilst the Tigers were probably expected to win, they certainly had to fight all the way to get the points. The Suns came out firing in the first quarter kicking 4 goals to 2 against the breeze to take a 10 point lead at the first change. An early goal at the start of the first quarter had the Tigers faithful a little concerned, however the boys managed to settle and whilst they dominated play for the rest of the term, they were unable to build any scoreboard pressure, kicking 1 goal 5 to trail by 5 points at halftime.
Bomaderry was again well on top in the third quarter but failed to capitalise, kicking 4 goals 5 for the term whilst restricting the Suns to 1 goal 1 thanks to some outstanding defence and a midfield dominance. With Shellharbour having the use of the breeze and the sun no longer a factor, Jacko asked for a big effort in the last quarter and the boys responded with both sides kicking 2 goals 3 for the term. Whilst everybody contributed to the win, special mentions need to go to Courtney Ward in the ruck, Sam Tucker, Jack Boxsell, Sean Byrne & Matt Tyler in the midfield and the entire backline, especially Jacob Wright & Lachlan Jackman.
A good win and what better way to head to the Black & Gold Ball and celebrate the 10th anniversary of our 2006 premiership wins in first and second grade.
Final Score: Bomaderry 9-17: 71 Shellharbour 8-6: 54
Goalkickers: B. Girling 2, S. Tucker 2, M.Wyles, M. Tyler, J. Hangan, L. Jackman & C. Ward 1 goal each.
RESERVE GRADE
Unfortunately, the ressies didn’t fare that well and were never in the hunt against a side that it’s fair to say, would push most 1st Grade sides. Ulladulla got out of the blocks early kicking 5 goals to nil in the first quarter and whilst the Tigers rallied and were fairly competitive in the second and third terms, they couldn’t doing anything to stop the Dockers who came home strongly, kicking 10 unanswered goals in the final quarter to run right away with the game.
A special thanks to Billy Veale, Brad Graham & Andrew Ellis who pulled on the boots and showed glimpses of their past exploits. Also thanks to Mitchell Bennet for filling in. Tyson Sue never stopped trying, Mitch Lawrence made a welcome return from injury to be among Bomaderry’s best and hats off to the backline, especially Ryan Delahenty, Ben Trayling & Adrian Hiscox, who never gave up despite being put under enormous pressure.
Final Score: Bomaderry 4-4: 28 Ulladulla 26-9: 165
This week the seniors have the weekend off, however there is still plenty of AFL on show with the Tigers well represented in the Junior rep sides this weekend, so please get along to the local grounds and support the future of AFL in the Shoalhaven. Artie Smith Oval will host to the U/17’s & Youth Girls, whilst West Street host the U/12’s and Nowra Showground the U/14.5’s. Games start at 6pm on Friday night, then again at 9am on Saturday and 9.30am on Sunday. If you can come down and help out or just support the kids that would fantastic.
In closing, I would just like to congratulate the BSC on an excellent Black & Gold Ball. This was the first function of it type with really good numbers and a great night had by all. Already looking forward to next year. For more information on club activities (football or social) please contact Tony McCann 0422365408 or Sticks on 0403 29 1231.
