A re-elected Turnbull Government has vowed to boost jobs on the South Coast by investing $20 million to help businesses expand and employ more people.
Defence Minister Marise Payne said there were already a number of innovative businesses in Gilmore which were making the most of cutting-edge technology to work with the Defence sector, and those jobs would expand under the funding package.
"The NSW South Coast Jobs and Investment Package will create community-driven government investment; a genuine partnership between the Coalition Government and local communities," Minister Payne said.
"These grants will assist local businesses to grow and expand, as well as encourage new businesses to enter the region, creating new sustainable jobs.”
The locally-led NSW South Coast Jobs and Investment Package will help create local jobs and growth, build a highly skilled local workforce, take advantage of export opportunities and diversify the regional economy, with a focus on the region’s key strengths and industries.
“This is all about creating the setting for growth by matching government funds with business ideas and innovations,” Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis said.
"Applications for grants from the fund will be assessed against the South Coast’s own economic growth plan, which it will produce at the request of the Coalition Government, and against a Jobs Growth Assessment Criteria.
"This is not Canberra dictating to the South Coast. This is Canberra partnering with the South Coast and taking direction from the South Coast. Local knowledge knows best.”
Ms Sudmalis said the package would build local skills and drive export opportunities by harnessing local knowledge.
“This is an amazing initiative aimed at innovating local businesses,” she said.
“This is about providing incentives for businesses that want to expand or that are looking at relocating to the Gilmore electorate.
“The government wants to support them moving to the area and employing our people.
“My number one priority is to see jobs created for local families. That’s why the Turnbull Government is investing directly in the NSW South Coast to build a highly skilled local workforce.
“The Coalition Government’s local plan will ensure the sustainability of our local communities.”
