Credit card troubles
I recently had the misfortune of having my CBA credit card used overseas.

It’s only a small card I use it online but that's not the issue. My card had been overdrawn and CBA still allowed it to be used by a computer spyware firm.
I was not notified by CBA bank at all and this has infuriated me that they have allowed this transaction which is being disputed after several attempts to have it cancelled by me.
What made this worse was it put my card over the limit and CBA still allowed this transaction to happen.
Angry, I rang the after hours number to be told it was my fault as I had not read the terms and conditions that allowed my card to be drawn on even if its over.
I have had the privilege of having other credit cards in my lifetime with other banks and they have been a lot different and more caring they have called me when my card has been used overseas and said "Are you in New York right now as your cards just been used? If you are not I will cancel your card immediately and put the paperwork through.
Delighted with this type of security I will be cancelling my CBA card and returning to the banking people who look out for you, care about your money and your security as it seems that its lacking here with CBA and the people who represent them.

Bridge action needed
On January 6, 1989 an excavator on the back of a semi trailer crashed into the superstructure of the Lee Street Bridge over the Macquarie River at Wellington, NSW, bringing down the whole structure, sending the truck and excavator into the river and completely cutting the Mitchell Highway through the town. This was a truss bridge similar to ours over the Shoalhaven River.
The same sort of incident could bring down our old bridge. The overhead trusses supporting our bridge contain a number of small steel members all working together to act as a “beam”. If a few of these key elements are knocked out the truss can bend and fail and the bridge can become weakened or a section could collapse into the river. This is what happened at Wellington.
RMS mentioned this potential danger in its consultation summary of 2015
We await the latest progress report on the current bridge study with great interest. The location has been decided to the west of the existing bridge. The RMS website is silent on the latest news. A new interchange at Bolong and Illaroo roads is part of the study and part of a broader problem here. The future traffic generated by the completion of the new upgraded Berry to Bomaderry four-lane coastal freeway will simply meet a bottleneck at the Shoalhaven River if nothing is done.
Residents may recall recent reports of over-height trucks hitting Sydney tunnels and wrecking the overhead services, or becoming jammed in the structure. There were 25 of these incidents in 2015.
It would be helpful for RMS to give us and our political reps the ammunition to support the case for a new bridge now. This not just a Nowra issue, it is a national issue involving a major national freeway.

Debt-ridden economics
Since elected, rather than make the tough decisions, the government decided to pass on that responsibility to the financial markets and finance is the dominant force behind the economy not the government.
What we have is, a wealth-driven housing market that benefits business, an retirement system that leaves millions insecure in their old age, an unaffordable age care system, and a tax system that favours debt over equity.
The other day I heard on radio a finance company offering cheap loans to pensioners who can’t afford to pay power bills. What next, loans for council and water rates?
