After only winning one game from their first six games of the season, the victory couldn’t have come at a better time for Peter Hooper and his men.
“Having Jesse Dee back, allowed us to have a pretty well balanced team as our execution and important contributions from each player is what got us to victory,” Gorillas’ coach Peter Hooper said.
The Eagles had plenty of opportunities in the first 20 minutes of the game, as poor discipline, and passes not finding their mark, letting the opposition gain easy metres in the middle of the field, were all contributing factors to a very difficult afternoon.
The Gorillas got the scoreboard ticking through tries to Nathan Gallestegui, who received a perfect cut out ball from five-eight Blair Grant.
Both players combined for a four pointer once again, as Gallestegui retained possession off his own grubber, setting up Grant with a terrific inside ball who converted his own try and the Gorillas led 10-nil.
The away team forced a mistake off the kick off, leading to Dean Gray setting up Simon Harris from dummy half.
Brad Meuleman converted as the Eagles trailed 10–6.
The home team when on an attacking rampage scoring 22 points before halftime.
Chad Lisch, a 70-metre sprint by Jake Kinzett, Andrew Diomei and Blake Colgan all crossed the white chalk.
Blair Grant slotted two goals and fullback Chad Lisch took over kicking duties for the remainder of the afternoon, as Warilla led 32-6 at the break.
Albion Park didn’t have much to cheer about in the second half, as Warilla play most of half down in opposition territory.
Jesse Dee crossed for a second half double, Blair Grant and Blake Colgan scored doubles for the game.
Jarryd Pepper, Josh Kent also posted four pointers as Chad Lisch slotted four goals to secure the full-time score line 64-6.
Gallestegui, Kinsett, Dee, Kent and Grant were the standouts for the home team, while Dean Gray, Simon Harris and Kyle Williams did all they could for the Eagles.
