Illuminate showcases the work of artists from around the area and Linda Dening’s beautiful piece ‘Autumn’ was chosen as the best of the entries.
The Tomboye based artist said it was an honour to get such an award.
“It’s wonderful to win this prize,” she said.
“It always feels like you are winning when you get your work accepted and hung in an exhibition but to win the actual prize really helps me to affirm what I am doing as an artist.
“Also being part of Seechange, which is a grassroots community organisation run by lots and lots of people willing to give of their time, brings an atmosphere that has great energy, passion with professionalism to it is wonderful and so I do feel very honoured to have won.”
She used wood, horsehair, linen, wax, charcoal, paper and materials from the natural world and ‘Autumn’ is a response to ponderings on dualism.
“My inspiration for this work came from the place where I live on the Mongarlowe River between Nowra and Braidwood,”’ she said.
“The skies are big, the landform is like a bowl and the moon seems to especially illuminate this space.
“I am interested what can be revealed or intimated in light and dark.”
The award winning artist loves the whole feel and concept of the Seechange Festival.
“I have been a visitor at previous festivals but this is my first time exhibiting. I am involved in an exhibition titled Verge as well as exhibiting in Illuminate,” she said
“The air of excitement with Seechange is palpable and there is great energy, lots and lots of people out and about enjoying the enormous variety of events as well as the atmosphere.”
