Capturing striking images of the country’s rugged and epic landscapes, active volcanoes and the famous Aurora Borealis Northern Lights, the 47-year-old said the 10 day experience was unforgettable.
“What I found there pretty much blew my mind in terms of photography,” he said.
“The epic landscapes, waterfalls, mountains and volcanic landscapes are constantly changing and amazing to photograph.”
While the breathtaking landscape scenes feature in Mr Izzard’s upcoming exhibition in Kiama, it was the Icelandic ponies that lit up his lense.
“I was driving north near the end of the trip and I knew I wanted to photograph these beautiful horses, they’re just so beautiful and gentle natured,” he said.
“I saw some and just jumped the fence to go hang out with them and I had an amazing experience with the horses that day.
“One of my favourite shots for the exhibition happened then when one particular horse started to walk towards me and we had a cool little moment.”
While most people spend the last night of their holiday packing their bags, Mr Izzard spent his final Icelandic hours capturing some of the most stunning images in the collection.

“I met a friend and we spent the whole night driving around photographing the incredible landscapes in her part of the world and the Northern Lights, which as you can imagine are just magical every time you see them,” he said.
“I had an early flight so I said ‘just keeping going’ and we drove all night and she dropped me at the airport in the morning.
“It was a spectacular last night.”
A series of images from Mr Izzard’s trip will be showcased in the 65° North – Perspectives of Iceland exhibition from June 2-30.
It will take place at Kiama’s Little Blowhole Art Bar and images will be for sale.
“The subject matter is something that wouldn’t have been seen in Kiama before,” Izzard said.
Izzard said in the future he hopes to conduct workshops with other photographers interested in travelling overseas to capture exotic surroundings.

“It’s about experiencing the places as well as photographing,” he said.
