This week Librarian Rhapsody broke 250,000 views on YouTube.
The team made the parody of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody when their bosses at Shoalhaven City Council asked the librarians to detail their achievements over the past 12 months; it was decided a PowerPoint presentation would not suffice.
Shoalhaven Libraries Digital Resources Manager Robin Sharpe said originally they hoped the video would reach a few hundred views.
“It just went viral, it went crazy,” she said.
“It was going up eight to ten thousand overnight, then we realised it had gone all over the world. We got coverage from the Sydney Morning Herald and SBS websites, everyone was so excited.
“We got to about 125,000 and then time goes by and we thought it had run it’s course.”
Ms Sharpe said a couple of months ago the video once again surged in popularity.
“Again it started to go up a lot each day and we started watching it again,” she said.
“This week we realised it reached 250,000 views, so we’re really excited.
“It’s just great that this one has had a sort of rebirth if you like, because it was so exciting when it first happened, it’s not even a year and we’ve reached that.
Asked if the staff would consider producing another music video, Ms Sharpe remained coy.
“We are still riding on the coat tails of that and I don’t know if we could ever follow up with something as good,” she said.
“But who knows, we might.
“We’re always thinking up plans, when this all happened, it did make me think well maybe we could do another one, it’s very exciting.”
