The 56-year-old, who is also well known for his production of adult films, had been dining at The Star casino with friends from overseas last Thursday when he pulled up outside his Crows Nest home just before 11pm.
Minutes later he was being rushed to hospital having been ambushed by two well-built men who had been waiting outside his West Street premises for him for the past part of an hour.
"I don't know who they were," Mr Ange told Fairfax Media on Monday from his hospital bed. "Just a couple of cheap standover men someone had sent around for a particular reason."
Mr Ange, who now has upwards of 30 stitches in his head, said he spotted the two men as soon as he got out of his car.
"I was walking over to my house when I saw two big kahunas in tracksuits coming out of my gate," he said. "One of them said 'are you Con?' I said 'what's up?' then I just got belted."
He tried to retreat back to his vehicle but one of the men ran at him and the other snuck up behind him and punched him in the back of his head.
"It knocked me out cold. I must have fallen on my face because I've got bad cuts to my forehead and nose," he said.
"I think must have copped a kick to the back of the head because I've got a bad gash at the back of my head."
Mr Ange said the men only stopped when a cab drove down West Street, He said he was lucky to be alive given he had been on blood thinning medication for the last four years.
"I was very blessed that the cab driver stopped," he said. "Maybe the cab driver coming to me at a distance they might of thought it was a police car, that spooked them and they took off.
"That cabbie probably saved my life. There was a stream of blood running from my head into the gutter. Two or three minutes more and I'd have been gone."
Mr Ange has spoken to police and handed over CCTV footage from outside his home.
The footage shows the two men hanging around the home for an hour, jumping over his two-metre fence three times, while his wife and four-year-old child were asleep inside the home.
He said he had no idea who was behind the attack and said he not received any threats or warnings before being ambushed.
"I have no theories why I was targeted but they were there waiting for me," Mr Ange said. "They wanted me. I avoid all conflict because of my blood thinning medication."
Police said they were called to West Street at 11pm on Thursday after a man was found lying in the middle of the road.
"Initial investigations suggest the man was assaulted," police said.
The dog squad was called in but they were unable to locate the two men involved. Anyone with information is urged to contact North Sydney detectives.
