Mrs Sheehan is getting ready for her 50th Mother's Day working as a florist and she just loves helping people spoil their mothers.
“I have not missed working a Mother’s Day in all that time,” she said.
“Sometimes I have been a little bit sick but I battle on.
“I even arranged my holidays, babies and everything around Mother’s Day.
“It’s a special day and everyone loves their mum.”
Mother’s Day traditionally had its own special flower.
“Traditionally it was a chrysanthemum that was a Mother's Day flower - a white chrysanthemum,” she said.
“These days and over the years I have noticed a change and it’s now just beautiful colourful bunches.”
She said lots of native flowers, like Western Australian proteas, are now popular as well.
Mrs Sheehan still hopes to work more on future Mother’s Days.
“I love it too much to retire but I am semi-retired and I still do the work when I can and if they will have me,” she said.
“It’s just lovely working here in a florist.”
The team from Sanctuary Point Jervis Bay Florist love having Mrs Sheehan to call upon for advice and encouragement.
Her favourite flower is a rose and her work-mates, to celebrate her 50th Mother’s Day, recently presented her with a bunch of 50 roses.
“The rose is my favourite because it means love and everyone loves a rose,” she said.
She was 15-years-of-age when she first started working in the industry in the St George district of Sydney.
“I worked for St George Florist and we supplied the leagues club and everything with flowers,” she said.
“We used to help arrange the flowers all around the club and they used to have flowers all the time.”
It was her first job out of school and being a florist was not, at first, in her plans.
“I just love the flowers,” she said.
She moved with her family to the Shoalhaven in 1984 and worked at Hyams Florist.
