Something new is launching in South Nowra. It’s a place where you can save money and you never quite know exactly what you’ll find. Vinnies new retail store and warehouse, at 11/58 Princes Highway, South Nowra, will be officially opened on Monday, May 9 at 10am with a blessing by Fr Patrick Faherty and morning tea. Anyone interested is welcome to attend the free event. The new centre is one of seven Vinnies stores throughout the Shoalhaven. There are other shops in central Nowra, Berry, Shoalhaven Heads, Culburra Beach, Sanctuary Point and Ulladulla.
The South Nowra store sells clothing, furniture, bric-a-brac, books and more. Fay Brandon from Nowra has been a volunteer with Vinnies for 30 years. She explained the St Vincent de Paul Society existed to give people a helping hand. “We have so many arms, if you put it all together we’re here to help,” she said. “It doesn’t matter who they are … I don’t think there’s anything we don’t cover.” Vinnies shops aim to sell anything donated for as much as possible to fund the society’s various outreaches and programs.
She offered her top tips for op shopping. “If you see something grab it, don’t come back later thinking it will be there. And be prepared to look around. Treasures turn up.”
