The national tour, produced by Merrigong Theatre Company, comes to Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre for one show only, on Tuesday May 31 at 7.30pm.
A heart-warming romantic comedy, Swing has garnered rave reviews across the globe.
Joe used to run the family printing business over the road from the dance studio and would watch the couples twirling on the floor. But changing technologies and recession have outrun him, the business closed, he got divorced and both his sons are far away and not making much of an effort to stay in touch. Now he's trying to find a new life, training in horticulture and learning to lindy hop.
May is a graphic designer who might have been an artist, but didn't rate herself highly enough and has now settled into a comfortable but unexciting relationship with a boyfriend who is away for work.
They meet at an evening dance class, and begin to fumble their way through the dance steps, romantic dilemmas, career problems and life choices.
Full of choreography and buoyed by great ‘50s rock’n’roll tunes, Swing is all about living as well as you can, being brave and ‘giving it a lash’.
The brilliant Irish cast of Arthur Riordan and Gene Rooney, both with a swathe of stage, film and TV credits behind them, portray 20 colourful characters, both hilariously funny and heartbreakingly real.
Fishamble is a multi-award‐winning, internationally‐acclaimed Irish theatre company dedicated to the discovery, development and production of new work.
Fishamble was most recently in Australia at the 2016 Adelaide Fringe Festival with their works Underneath and Little Thing, Big Thing, both of which received a rake of 4 and 5 star reviews, with Underneath also winning a prestigious Best Theatre Award.
“We’ve found that audiences in Australia have a similar sense of humour to the Irish,” Artistic Director of Fishamble, Jim Culleton said.
“Audiences have remarked that they expect to experience the rich, poetic language and dark humour in Irish work, but they are also enjoying the physicality of Fishamble plays.”
Tickets are LIVE Member/ Group 5 plus $33, Adult $42, Concession holders $36, Student $25. Please note a $4.40 transaction fee applies to telephone and online bookings.
This show is recommended for ages 12 years and over.
