Both teams were ferocious at the ball and at times the game was scrappy. When the Vikings managed to spread the ball at speed they played some good footy.
Liam Walsh was unstoppable as he finished with 5 goals. If he had kicked more truly he may have ended with at least 10. Josh Brown was able to dictate terms in the ruck, with the opposite ruckman unable to match his physicality.
Taigen Dubbelde, Tim Green and Damian Wallace also had a great night where they racked up the disposals.
The highlight of the match was watching the future of this league in both teams’ young guns James Eagleton (Vikings) and Jack Boxsall (Tigers) go head to head for the entire game.
Both players have amazing skill and it was worth the price of admission alone just to watch them.
Marco Basaglia was strong in the middle as always; he has taken his game to another level this year since being named co-captain. Brendon Barnes looks like he has completely recovered from the injury that saw him miss all of last season. His rebound from the back line was sublime.
We also saw the return of Michael Pelda and Mat Brunton. Both players are legends at the Blues and to see them return to the field under the new banner was amazing.
Pelda has been battling an injury for quite some time and for him to make it back on the field is a great sign.
The game at times was a little scrappy with both teams trying to outmuscle each other. The Vikings did run out convincing winners 12.13-85 to 4.6-30 and if it wasn't for some good pressure from the Tigers and some wayward kicking, the win could have been larger.
