The evening started with a minute’s silence in honour of the Anzac’s and those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice defending this great nation.
Then it was on with the game and what a cracker it was. The first quarter was fairly even with both teams hard at the ball and keen to gain the ascendancy.
With a heavy dew descending on the ground the play got a bit scrappy in the second quarter and although Bomaderry tried to stem the flow, Nowra/Albatross’ ability to convert there scoring opportunities saw them lead by 38 points at the main break.
The third term was much the same as the second with the Vikings punishing Bomaderry's wayward kicking. Jack Boxsell, Toby Craig and Matt Wyles worked hard in both directions, but with Bomaderry’s forward line well held, the Tiger’s were unable to build any scoreboard pressure.
Despite being down by 52 points at the last change, the Tigers never stopped trying, and whilst the Vikings won the last quarter by three behinds it was a much better effort and something hopefully we can build on over the coming weeks.
Whilst the loss of Andrew Lee and Millsy before kick off and Luke McCann early in the game didn’t help, the Vikings were clearly the better side on the night and deserved the win.
For the Tigers, Tom Hines, Matt Hickmott, Jacob Wright and Jimmy, Nicoll worked tirelessly in defence, while Courtney Ward, Sean Byrne, Matt Tyler and Jack Boxsell battled hard all night to be among the Tiger’s best. Bomaderry 4.6.30 lost to Nowra/Albatross 12.13.85
Final Score: Bomaderry 4 – 6: 30 Nowra Albatross 12 – 13: 85
Goalkickers: M. Wyles 2, M. Hickmott and J. Hangan 1 goal each.
