Mr Roberts has suffered injuries as a result of a fall at the wharf while working on his boat.
“The plank lifted out of the wharf and I slipped down onto the boat, squashed my right testicle, it now has a 6-8mm cyst on it and tore my ACL,” Mr Roberts said.
“I’ve had to spend $500 of my own money to put lighting up so we don’t fall off the wharf anymore. ''
Mr Roberts said he no longer allows his children onto the wharf because it is so decayed.
“The wharf committee wont fix the wharf because they reckon it’s going to get condemned, I go to the council and they tell me until it’s condemned it’s to be kept up to OH&S standards.
“I went there the other day with my wife and nearly fell off the wharf again, my foot went through another plank.’’
Mr Roberts said the last time the fire hydrant is outdated and there is only one working light on the entire wharf.
“I’ve had to spend $500 of my own money to put lighting up so we don’t fall off the wharf anymore.
“I’ve spent money on pads to put around the pylons, I have a brand new $100,000 boat and the bolts pierced through the side of my boat and scratched the paint off.”
Wharf Committee president, Gary Crocker said the voluntary run committee covers maintenance costs from annual wharf user fees.
“Anyone who owns a boat and uses the wharf is part of the committee,” he said.
“It’s the duty of anyone who has a boat at the wharf to maintain the wharf.
“If he has spent money on the wharf and presents it to the committee they will refund it. To my knowledge he hasn’t presented the committee with a bill.
Mr Crocker said the committee is placing a gate on the wharf.
“We’ve spent many hours there maintaining it, it’s not perfect but it’s all we can do. All the planks, including the one Des fell through, have been screwed down and the hand rail has been fixed,” he said.
