Emergency services were called to the business on Tom Thumb Avenue, South Nowra at 9.34am after reports a truck caught fire after loading scrap metal.
NSW Rural Fire Service duty commander for Batemans Bay Rick Jones said the truck was loading used cars when there was an explosion and the contents of the semi-trailer caught alight.
No one was injured in the incident and firefighters were able to control the blaze using Nowra’s newest fire truck which houses a foam technology that can more efficiently put out flames.
“The flames were suppressed in about 35 minutes. The advantage of that truck is we were able to put out the flames faster than if we were just using water,” Mr Jones said.
“With cars there is always the danger of having a lot of products that can explode and given the fact a lot of them were suppressed we were able to alleviate that problem.”
