Craig ‘Crowie’ Alexander took line honours in a truly spirited race to claim his sixth Husky crown ahead of former world champion Pete Jacobs and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Brad Kahlefeldt.
Sharing four world titles between them, Crowie versus Jacobs has been a long time rivalry and was always going to deliver an exciting race.
Alexander finished in a time of 3:39.45, just over one minute ahead of Jacobs (3:41.11) and Kahlefeldt (3:44.06).
It was Jacobs who led for more than two-thirds of the race and despite racing over 105km, only seconds separated the top three until the final 10km.
Then Alexander got to where he is most comfortable – the front.
Not to be overshadowed, the women’s race delivered some equally impressive racing.
Race favourite Mel Hauschildt took the win in a time of 4:04.24, almost five minutes ahead of the Czech Republic’s Radka Vodickova (4:09.36) and Michelle Bremer (4:11.50), who rounded out the podium in third sport.
It was a great win for Hauschildt whose career has been plagued by injury.
