The pavilion is packed up, the competitors have returned home and the committee is celebrating after another successful Nowra Show.
Show president Wendy Woodward said while exact gate numbers aren’t known, numbers were up slightly on last year.
“Saturday is always our busiest day and the Saturday evening show was a really strong point for the community,” she said.
While overall numbers were up, school student attendance was down.
“The school groups numbers were disappointing and we think it’s because the show date fell a week earlier this year and it’s so close to the beginning of the school term,” Wendy said.
“We’re going to work closely with the schools next year and I’m sure we’ll boost the number again.”
Wendy said Saturday’s much-anticipated charity camel race was a success.
“The charity camel race was absolutely fantastic and it was really popular.”
Geoff Cochrane proved he’s natural aboard a camel and is celebrating after taking out the coveted top spot.
The proceeds from the camel race will help Noah’s Shoalhaven.
A 10-year-old brahman steer also piqued the curiosity of show goers. The gentle giant could be seen being ridden around the showground by his owner Garry Nelson while guesses were made on the total combined weight of steer, owner and saddle.
Three lucky guesses all came within a kilogram of the magic number- 1026 kilograms- and Henry Suffolk, Namoi Bennett and Kylie Meehan all shared top spot.
Wendy thanked everyone for the help in bringing the show together.
“It was our 140th year and overall the show was a huge success,” she said.
“It comes down to the dedicated workers, volunteers and committee members who give so much of their time to put on such a wonderful event.”
